Why does aluminium need to be thermally broken?
Aluminium, as with all metals, transfers heat, so without thermal breaking the warmth generated inside would escape and be lost to the outside cold. By constructing the frame using sections of polyamide, a glass-filled plastic material that insulates, the thermal bridge is broken and almost no heat is conducted.
What are the benefits of powder coat versus we paint?
Compared to wet paint, powder coating offers far superior protection, since the thermal bonding process it goes through during curing gives it higher levels of resistance to chipping, scratching and other wear, and it can be applied in much thicker layers. This is especially crucial for aluminium glazed products, which are often exposed to the elements outdoors.
Not only is powder coating physically more durable, but it is also much better at preserving colour. As a result of exposure to moisture, sunlight and heat, the resins found in paint and powder coating will start to degrade, leading to a chalking effect that reduces adhesion between the pigment particles and the coating surface. In the beginning, this will simply make the paint appear faded, but over time, it will eventually erode the coating and cause it to no longer offer protection. Polyester based powder coatings are highly sought after for their superior chalking resistance, and often used as topcoats.

The lantern's powder coated exterior doesn't just offer a wide range of colours, it also delivers a thicker, more consistently smooth finish when compared to standard finish.
Powder coating results in an extremely durable finish and is also much kinder to the environment.

Korniche: Self-Clean Glass
Once installed, your powder coated, glazed lantern will be fully weather resistant, with self-cleaning glass to reduce maintenance even further.
Specially designed to remain cleaner for longer, our self-cleaning glass features a transparent coating that breaks down dirt using the sun's ultra-violet rays, which is then washed away by any rain.
The highly durable coating is integrated into the external surface of the glass. It will still require the occasional clean in line with the glass manufacturer's instructions. but at far longer intervals compared to conventional glass.
